World War II Spearhead

World War II Spearhead

Tightening the Circle:1944 the circle is drawing tighter around Nazi Germany. The Soviets are advancing from the east. British, Americans, and other western allies advancing from the south and west. Former German allies are joining the attack. This themed competition uses the Spearhead World War II rules and 1/300th scale models. Armies are those that fought in Europe and are drawn from the 1944 Spearhead TO&Es with modifications as described in the Spearhead Scenario System.

Umpire:

The Spearhead playing umpire will be Paul Reynolds. Any questions can be emailed to him directly or he can be contacted by telephone on 04 528 9806.

General:

Eight players, as a minimum, are required for this competition to proceed. This number of official registrations will need to be reached by February. Army lists must be submitted by 1st March and should be sent directly to the umpire.

Rules:The Spearhead Rules will be used in conjunction with a points system and a scenario generation system. The combination will build scenarios covering Attack, Defence and Encounter situations.

The Spearhead Scenario Generation System, as well as the included points system, clarification file and army list amendments can be downloaded here:

The Scenario Generation System has under gone some minorupdates and is now stable, at least until after the experience gained at Natcon 2010.

Armies:

Armies can only be drawn from the 1944 Spearhead TO&Es with modifications as described in the Spearhead Scenario System and supporting documents available at the above website. Each player must provide lists for his Primary Nationality. As defined in the Spearhead Scenario Generation System each player must provide an Attack and Defend List for his selected nationality using the values defined under "All Theatres Except the Far East 1943-1945".

These lists must be from one nationality and both lists must be from 1944. A different divisional TO&E can be used for a Defend List than is used in the Attack List. The Defend List may have up to three Option A sub-lists. The Attack List may have three Option A and three Option B sub-lists.The lists can be drawn from Official Spearhead TO&E lists and the TO&E Amendments list on the Scenario Generation System website. If you have a specific list that is not covered please contact the umpire. It is possible that it can be added given sufficient notice and the list is sufficiently researched and publicly available. The umpire must receive all lists for checking no latter than the 1 March 2010, or earlier if possible. To assist the umpire with list checking all lists should detail all points costs before and after multiplication by nationality modifiers and be organised clearly.

Secondary Nationality:

To prevent Allied vs Allied or Axis vs Axis games players are strongly encouraged to provide a secondary nationality. However, this is not compulsory. If a player elects to use a secondary nationality the lists must be constructed as detailed previously. The secondary nationality can only be used if the opponents primary nationality is of the same alliance and then must. Again, once defined no latitude is allowed when fielding.Should the situation arise where two players have two primary nationalities from the same alliance and both have a secondary nationality a die will be rolled and the player scoring lower will use his secondary nationality.

Models and Terrain:

All models must accurately represent the items they depict. All models must be painted and based according to the Spearhead rules. The terrain generation system, as defined in the Spearhead Scenario Generation System, will be used.Players are required to bring their own terrain and base cloths. Town sectors must be clearly modelled on 3" x 3" sector bases. Please note terrain will not be available from the organisers.

Rounds:

The competition will consist of six rounds with each round being limited to four hours including set up. The initial game will be determined randomly and subsequent draws will use a Modified Swiss Chess system. The mechanics of this are yet to be determined and will not be defined until final player numbers are confirmed.

Trophies:

Two main trophies will be awarded:

  • Spearhead National Trophy - New Zealand: To the player scoring the most victory points over the six rounds.
  • Spearhead Army Trophy - New Zealand: To the player with the best presented army (or armies) and terrain. This will be based on popular vote by all players.
